I have been religiously following all the news ( print as well as TV and internet) about the hideous, inhuman, and cowardly assault on women in the pub in Mangalore. No surprise that I am extremely angry and shocked as well. My pain is aggravated by the statements from various politicians inlcuding Ashok Gehlot and Yeddyurappa, carrying a message that, in a subtle way, the assualt is justified. Yedurappa is suggesting people to drink at home or else such acts may hapen again is utterly ridiculous. The reasons for the justification of the attack are equally outrageous.
There would be no exaggeration if I call it 'Talibanization of india'. What is going on here is similar to the Taliban taking control of the people's lives in Afghanistan. For God's sake, India is a democratic nation and we, as citizens, are entitled to certain rights as provided by the Constitution of India. Nobody tells anyone what to do and what not to, where to go and where not to. Ofcourse, it must be within the legal confines. These girls who were attacked, or anyone else in this country, have the right and complete freedom to go to pubs or elsewhere they choose to. I dont understand why cant anyone go to pub, after a long day of work, for some fun, entertainment and relaxation. And, if there is something illegal going on inside these pubs then the police shall deal with it accordingly, as per the law. Morever, if pubs are really a problem then the government(s) should pass a law and get rid of'em. But, assault by civilians, no way. And, if such things continue, we have no right to call India a democratic nation.
I believe such politicians, instead of wasting resources on such issues, outght to deal with the real issues including assaults, terrorism, economic recession, and corporate frauds, that have been tormenting our country. Even after 4 days of the assault, the culprits are at large and there are no signs and hope whether they will be brought to justice.
